Yüksek Hızlı Tren Garı

Mix-Use - Commercial

Ankara High Speed Train Station

According to the city plan designed by the German city planner Jansen, Ankara Train Station is located where Cumhuriyet Street ends. On a street where architectural works of the Republican period modernization movement are located, the train station building was considered in its time both the gate of entrance to the city and the terminal point of the city. The development of the “high-speed train” infrastructure with its rapidly extending use in the country led to the need for a new train station building.

The Ankara High-Speed Train Station project was given by the Turkish National Railways Authority (TCDD) to the Cengiz-Limak-Kolin (CLK) partnership under the build-operate-transfer model following a competitive bidding procedure held in 2013. Before the construction work began, the investors reviewed jointly with the TCDD management the project design according to the results of the feasibility study commissioned by them on the tendered project and asked A Tasarım to develop a new project. A Tasarım prepared a new proposal. The concept project developed jointly with the investors during the design process was submitted to the TCDD, and following negotiations, it was decided that the mass from of the building should be in conformity with the previously approved tendered project (the one prepared by Serdar Akünal+SUDOPAK). The mass and front main decisions and design in the tendered project were studied all over again, the interior building configuration was completely reconsidered, and execution designs were prepared.

The investors completed the project with a covered construction area of 220,000 m² within a period of 24 months and opened the AHTS building for use on 29.10.2016. In the building, 12 high-speed trains can serve at the same time on three platforms, each 400 metres long, where TCDD technical services can also be provided. The new Train Station building has been addressed not just as a transport infrastructure but also planned as an urban centre including functions such as commerce, catering, and accommodation as well as transport.
